The Goodman Group, a global real estate specialist involved in the ownership, development, and management of logistics and business spaces, requested the installation of a textile facade that blocks sunlight while maintaining indoor visibility as a measure against glare from the western sun. This request was made during the construction of their fourth logistics warehouse, Goodman Business Park East Gate, in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture.
The facade design, unprecedented in Japan, posed a major challenge, as none of the employees had prior experience in its design, production, or installation. Solutions were explored through extensive trial and error.
Over 500 production drawings were created, and numerous discussions were held among the design, manufacturing, and construction teams, with mock-ups and test installations repeated until a satisfactory solution was achieved.
During construction, an unexpected issue arose: the membrane panels, which had been tensioned at the factory, loosened during transport. However, re-tensioning was successfully carried out on- site, resulting in a neat and clean installation.
Through careful inspection and adjustment of each panel both at the factory and on-site, we believe we achieved a final result that fully satisfied the customer.
A Word from the Sales Representative
I was very surprised when I first heard about the project. I wondered whether it was really possible to create such a large textile facade using a method we had never tried before.
However, I recalled our company’s challenger spirit and felt it was worth taking on precisely because it was difficult.
By steadily addressing each of the customer's requests, we were able to complete the project successfully.
The fact that the customer was satisfied brought us great joy, and I hope to carry this sense of achievement forward as motivation for our next challenge.
