This project involved the relocation of a reuse office and residence, originally part of the former Matsuhama Welfare Facility, which was slated for demolition at the site of the former Kyushu University Hakozaki Campus.
The building is characterized by the striking contrast between the "real" — the urban memory preserved in the historical building's facade — and the "void" — the reinterpretation of its volume through a minimalist steel frame structure.
The membrane roof adopted here fills the interior with soft, high-quality light, supporting its role as a new symbol of the city by gently diffusing light like a lantern.
